| Types of EID
Readers: Summarising the
differences: |
|
PDA readers -
these allow the maximum level of management recording. They
have a full management program running on the reader. You tap
the screen, to make selections on the reader in much the same way as
you would click a mouse on a computer. The reader allows you
not only to record management events, but also to view a complete
history of each animal.
|
 |
|
The PDAs linked by
Bluetooth to an EID wand behave exactly the same as the Psion
type readers, except that to record events, you need to work with 2
items - the wand or stick reader and the PDA device.
|
|
| Event recorders such as the Agrident
APR350 have a range of events in a menu from which you can select in
order to record management information. You cannot look up
information on individual animals and the level of recording is less
than on a PDA type reader
|
|
|
EID wands or
stick readers only pick up the EID number of the animal. You cannot
record any significant level of management information on a stick
reader. Such readers are useful for recording batch information such
as a medicine treatment to a group of animals, but are not very
suitable if you want to record detailed management information such
as number of lambs born alive, number dead, lambing ease or
difficulty etc.
